NYT Reply: Political Donations From Reporters

In a message dated 10/11/2005 4:10:04 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time, mathis@nytimes.com writes:

Dear Mr. Petrelis,

In response to your e-mail, Karen Arenson has learned that her
husband, a lawyer, made a political contribution of $1,350 and the
political campaign credited it 50/50 to her and him. Her husband
will have the listing corrected, and Ms. Arenson has been cautioned
about the perils of using a check on a joint account.

Seth Gilmore is a staff assistant in the newsroom. He was promoted
relatively recently from the clerical staff, where he would not have
been covered by the prohibition. He now understands that he cannot
make
political contributions.

No one else on your list is covered by our ethics policy.

Sincerely,

Catherine Mathis
VP, Corporate Communications
